Here's Who Reads This

Several responded to my plea for info from those who read The Lime Springs Page.

I appreciate your responses; they'll encourage me to keep at it!

Here's what Nancey said several days ago:

"I'm anxious to have you include some of the notes you have received."

Publishing the letters on this page would make it unacceptably long. Therefore, for the first time that I can remember, this issue will have a second page.

Hello, Sports Fans

I'm updating The Lime Springs Page right now. I have quite a bit of info to pass along this time, so please check back later.

Speaking of sports, this just came in from Nancy who lives in greater Phoenix:

"Our cul-de-sac is red with banners, pennants, balloons, cut outs of players. It is really an enjoyable time whatever the game's outcome might be.

I think Brenda Warner did get too outspoken at one point and someone, including Kurt, asked her to be still. She was only going to hurt his career and make him look like he could not fight his own battles.

Now they have developed into a fine family and fan favorites in Phoenix. He had a tough, tough job to climb over the adulation that was heaped on Matt Leinart. Then Leinart went youthful and got into a peck of trouble partying with the wrong types.

Life is funny. Even in games - what goes around, comes around."

Request for Info and Contacts

Here's a note I got a couple of weeks ago from John Hinners (with slight editing):

"Hello, my name is John Hinners and I grew up in the Lime Springs area. I attended school in the Howard Winneshiek school systems until my sophomore year. My family then moved to the Spring Valley Minnesota. I would have graduated from Crestwood High in 1969.

I now live in Huron South Dakota and work for the State of South Dakota as a forester.

I would like to contact any of my old school mates that would have attended elementary school at Chester IA. And would have graduated from high school around 1969.

My email address is johnhinners@hotmail.com.

Could you give me some history of what happened to old business like Price Grocery, Peter Produce and others?"

I'll send John a brief note with a bit of history since he left. I'm sure he would appreciate hearing from other readers and friends from his youth.

The other day we came upon this donut shop in Aransas Pass, Texas, from the back side. Once the sign "sunk in' and I saw the humor in it, I did a quick u-turn so I could take a picture.

Surely readers of this page can come up with an appropriate caption for the picture! Send them to me and I'll publish them. kaw@syntheticsaves.com

Fatal Fire:
Two brothers Kalvelage died in a house fire three miles south of Lime Springs a few weeks ago. Read their obituaries in the Lime Springs Herald here: http://limespringsherald.com and here:http://limespringsherald.com.

Color Test:
Only one brave soul responded to this fun little color test: Granddaughter Stephanie.
Her score: 100% the first time around.
My score: 0% the first time, 100% the sixth time.

I guess there really is a difference between "left brained" and "right brained" people. (The temptation to drag politics into this discussion is strong, but I'll refrain.)

Differences between ISU and U of I

Two qotes from the Jan. 22 issue of the Lime Springs Herald:

Now I'm really glad that it was at ISU that I studied engineering, a fairly precise science!
