Welsh national Anthem

---and now it's time for a commercial.

I probably have posted a video of the National Anthem of Wales before, but it won't hurt to do it again.

When I was young in Lime Springs, all the immigrants were so intent on becoming Americans that the Welsh flag was never displayed nor the anthem sung. (How different today!)

Many of us from Lime Springs are of Welsh heritage. Here's our song! There's also a bit of a slide show of the country, so it can be an educational experience.

The piece and quiet, plus lack of fish biting her hook, gave Nancy some time to think about past jobs she's had. When she got back home, she put her thoughts to paper, so to speak, and they're now on Nancy's Notes for all of us to read.

She uncovered some interesting truths!

Good Music: Vocal Duet, Chime Choir, and Piano

I'm sorry to have missed worship at the Lime Springs United Methodist Church last Sunday. It must have been a good time!

The video below features a duet by Doc Lyon and Wayne Roberts. As mentioned at the beginning, the two were fraternity brothers at Iowa State College (now ISU) over 50 years ago! Wayne, at the suggestion of Pete Garrison, opted to join the USAF and protect our country for 20 years instead of getting his degree at Iowa State.

Don finished with a DVM degree and the "Doc" nickname and sometime decades ago move to Lime Springs to practice his profession.

Here, they are backed up by a piano and the church's new chime choir.

The Lime Springs Herald recently had an article on the recently-formed chime choir at the United Methodist Church.

This morning, Wayne Roberts sent me a link to their performance last Sunday (July 18) at the Lime Springs United Methodist Church as shown on YouTube. The YouTube version is below for your enjoyment.

It's great to see the hometown folks using this modern technology! I strongly suspect we have Jason Rubin to thank for the video; thanks, Jason. Keep up the good work!

Visit a B-17!

A WWII B-17 bomber is currently in Cedar Rapids and tomorrow (Thursday, July 22) is scheduled to fly to Rochester.

If Lime Springers are lucky, they might even see it go over! The direct route from CID to RST can't be far from Lime Springs. It'll sound different and beautiful and won't be moving very fast.

This plane is owned by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) of Oshkosh and is completing its summer tour. Next week, it will be on display at the annual EAA extravaganza, EAA AirVenture, in Oshkosh.

A key activity of this year's AirVenture is recognizing the 75th anniversary of the B-17, a major contributor to the winning of the war in Europe.

At the Rochester airport, you can walk (crawl?) through this historic airplane. Adult tickets for the ground tour are $5 or $15/family. Veterans can tour at no charge! Rides are also available, at about $400 each.

If you are interested, or have kids who could benefit from a bit of "ancient history," a drive up to Rochester will be well worth the short trip. This is a BIG airplane, an interesting airplane, an old airplane, and a historically important type of airplane.

And, amazing to me, 19-year-olds flew them during the war!

There are only about 14 of these which are in flying condition, so this is a rare opportunity to see "living" history!

The plane will be on display at RST Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Its website: http://www.b17.org/
