Lime Springs Herald Ranks High Again This Year (2004)!
A bit of background is probably in order here, as not all readers
of The Lime Springs Page are readers of the Lime Springs Herald.
Dan Evans is publisher of "The Herald," the Riceville
Recorder, the Le Roy Independent, and a paper in Grand Meadow. Dan
holds out in the Le Roy office when he's not on the run gathering
news, taking pictures, selling ads, or managing his outlying "bureaus."
The Lime Springs bureau, neatly housed in the Jones Meat Market
building, is ably manned (peopled?) by Marcie Klomp. Marcie writes
most of the articles for the Herald and is well aware of what is
going on in her territory! The Herald has come a long way since
the Evanses took oversometimes putting out double-sized issues,
sometimes with color pictures, and always with lots of Lime Springs
news. And Marcie is always there with the story of the week!
In early February, Marcie and others attended the annual meeting
of the Iowa Newspaper Association (INA) in Des Moines. The Recorder
and the Herald placed well again. Awards for The Herald are:
Note:
"Comments" are the comments of the INA judges.
Best Use of Graphicsl-----First place, for a graphic created
by Marcie
Best Multi-Published Section-----Second place, for the Vacation
and Recreation Guide
Comments:A really comprehensive guide to local attractions with
lots of valuable information. There are a few ideas I hope to steal.
Best Circulation Promotion----Second place, for a series
of ads to increase circulation
Comments: Although other newspapers had similar promos, you had
all of them. I like the college-bound promo.
Best Ad Idea for a Community Promotion or Event-----Second
place, for a full-page ad promoting Elma in the Vacation and Recreation
Guide
Comments: Your "Come Fine Home" ad had a nice layout.
Good use of color and photos. Nice simple text. Easy eye flow.
Best Headline Writning----Third place
Comments: Some catchy headlines, but most were straightforward,
which isn't all that bad.
Pretty impressive awards for "our" paper, wouldn't you
say? Congratulations, Marcie, Dan, and crew.
Carl would be pleased.
